The Davidson-Davie Community College logo is the cornerstone of our school’s visual identity. In order to ensure brand integrity and strength, consistent use of the logo is essential on all materials representing the college.
The overlapping “D”s represent two counties and two campuses, as well as student and school collaborating to build the future. They connote a clarity of vision—like two lenses, providing focus and direction for the future. The banner holding shape is our Davidson-Davie family crest—when you attend DDCC, you become part of a family. A family that has your back and is committed to seeing you succeed.
The school name, set it Minion Pro and Open Sans, clearly identify the college as an institution dedicated to both scholarship and practicality. The typeface Minion is reserved for use only in the logo and is not to be used elsewhere. (See more about typography.)
There are two orientations of the Davidson-Davie logo: a horizontal and a vertical version. Space limitations of a particular layout typically determine which version should be used. The stacked version works best when it can be centered and floated in a generous margin of space, such as on the cover of a formal communication. The horizontal logo works well in tight horizontal spaces, such as in online banners and other applications with limited depth.
When appearing on a solid color, be sure there is sufficient contrast between all colors of the logo and background. When possible, it is preferred the logo appear on the Davidson-Davie navy as shown here.
The primary colors of the school logo are navy and red and, as such, the school logo should never be presented in other colors unless production constraints dictate printing a spot color, or in printing in black in white. In such cases, the logo should be printed in grayscale or navy. The color version of the logo should always be used if possible, such as in digital applications or in four-color printing.
In general, the school name and “Community College” should always appear in contrasting colors. When producing in limited colors scenarios, “Community College” may be printed in a 50% tint of the “Davidson-Davie” as long as there is sufficient contrast with the background.
The banner holding shape should always be a solid color (navy or red) that sufficiently contrasts the background. The “Ds” should always be the other primary color (red or navy). The overlapping areas between the “Ds” should always be white.
In order to maintain the design integrity of the brand, the following examples show common misuses of the logo that should be avoided when designing materials for Davidson-Davie Community College.
Always maintain the original proportions of the logo. Do not stretch or skew the logo.
The logo should always appear square to the edge of the page or screen. Do not rotate the logo.
High-resolution or vector art files should always be used in brand materials. The logo should never appear pixelated or blurry when printed.
Colors need to be consistent across all brand materials. Do not use colors that are not part of the brand color palette with the logo.
Enhance readability by using sufficiently contrasting background colors. Do not use backgrounds colors that are very close in value to the logo colors.
Make sure the logo reads well on whatever background you use. Avoid using the logo on photographs that make the logo difficult to read.
Do not add holding shapes around the logo or graphic elements behind the logo.
Do not apply effects such as shadows, embosses, or bevels to the logo.
The banner mark may be used without the “Davidson-Davie Community College” type in place of the full logo as long as it appears in close proximity to the full college name. For example the banner mark could be used as a social media profile image or on collateral pieces, assuming the college name is clearly stated in the same context. The banner mark should never be used as a pattern or in combination with another symbol to create a new logo.
If you have questions about whether your application is acceptable, please contact the Marketing and Communications Office.
Formally identified internal groups at Davidson-Davie Community College may request a version of the logo with their departmental name or academic program underneath as shown below. To request a sub-brand logo, please contact the Marketing and Communications Office.
Sub-brand logos are subject to all the primary logo usage guidelines above, and include both horizontal and vertical versions for flexibility. Please do not attempt to create your own logo.
The seal should only be used on official documents and for formal occasions. It should not be used in place of the primary logo, as a design element in recruitment materials, or as a decorative element. Ideally, the seal should be reproduced in navy, either on an approved neutral background color, or reproduced in white on navy. The seal may be embossed, foil-stamped, or used as a watermark. If producing in limited color scenarios, and only when necessary, a black version of the seal may be used on an approved neutral background color.
Acceptable applications for the seal include:
